How The Mark works
The short version
- Someone posts a gathering: what, where, a few dates, how many people.
- Each person gets their own link, by email or by hand.
- You open it and say yes or no. No account, no app.
- It needs a minimum to happen and has room for a maximum.
- On the date to decide by, it is on or off. Nobody has to call it.
- If it is on, you get the address and a calendar file. If not, your yes carries to the next date.
Why not a calendar invite or a WhatsApp group?
A calendar invite assumes the date. Here the date, and whether it happens at all, is what gets decided.
You can mark a date as if need be, so the one that works for most people wins.
A group chat is a feed: everyone sees every maybe, the loudest decide, nobody says no. Here it is one link and one answer.
Guests see who is coming. Only the host sees a no.
When to use it
- Dinner with a friend.
- A Mario Kart night that needs at least eight.
- A trip with four friends and a date to decide by.
- A council: a few people, one question, one evening.
What it keeps and what it never sees
It keeps your first name, one way to reach you (encrypted) and what you said yes to.
It never keeps your IP address, your location, your device or your browser. No tracking, no ads.
How it is built
One small program on Cloudflare's network and one database. Email goes out through one mail service. No analytics, no scripts from anyone else.
